STEAM-Powered Saturday: Solar Bugs!
Families with children ages 4-12 are invited to join us at STEAM-Powered Saturday, a FREE bimonthly workshop empowering families to learn and grow together through hands-on STEAM education experiences. In this very special Earth Day-themed workshop, we will be using miniature solar panels, hobby motors and card stock to build solar-powered paper bugs that scuttle when exposed to bright light.
Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.
Families are invited to join us every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month for a free, fun hands-on project. These mind-expanding projects help children discover creative play through science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics (STEAM).
This weekend's workshop will be a special Earth Day Workshop! Learn about clean energy by building your very own solar-powered projects! In this very special Earth Day-themed workshop, we will be using miniature solar panels, hobby motors and card stock to build solar-powered paper bugs that scuttle when exposed to bright light.
Workshop format: This is a drop-in program for the whole family; participants can join anytime from 10am-1pm, but we recommend allocating a minimum of 30-45 minutes for each activity. Parents/guardians are expected to stay with their children at all times and actively participate in the workshop. This workshop is recommended for families with children ages 6+, but all ages are welcome. This workshop does require some fine motor control. Siblings of all ages are welcome; coloring sheets are provided for siblings too young to participate in the main activity.
Parents/guardians are asked to use their discretion when deciding whether a specific activity is the right choice for their kids, keeping in mind that advanced activities may take longer and require more fine motor skills to complete.
Parking: We do not have our own designated parking lot, but street parking is free on the weekends in Troy.
