Do you want a stress-free and successful college process? My students know exactly what to do. They have multiple acceptances from schools that are all a great fit for them, with scholarships!

I’m Kelly Linehan, MA, NBCT, a coach for students in grades 9-12 that are navigating the college process.  I work on behalf of students and families, helping you to understand the inside perspective: what colleges really  want in applicants and how to find the colleges that will be a good academic, social, and financial fit for your specific situation.  I show you how to get noticed and get results. My Linehan College Counseling seniors in the HS Class of 2017 have been awarded OVER ONE MILLION DOLLARS in merit aid and scholarships, with more still to come!  Please click here to see Reviews for Linehan College Counseling

When you have someone to guide you, the college process is no longer overwhelming. It becomes an adventure in exploring your future.  I am available to work in either your home or mine at an hourly rate, similar to an academic tutor.  My practice includes students in grades 9-12 at various stages in their college process and I assist a very limited number of students to be able to fully focus on each specific individual.

I offer a wide range of services adapted to your specific needs.  For my seniors in final stages of the process, I’m editing college essays, helping them best present themselves on the Common Application, other applications and scholarships, and refining college lists to be sure that they have a range of good fit schools and are positioning themselves well for merit aid consideration. I also give tips for standardized test approaches, financial aid resources, effective college tours, interviewing, choosing a major, and communicating with colleges to get yourself noticed by admissions.

With juniors and sophomores, I am able to make the process smooth and stress-free, since we can organize and pace out everything nicely.  And with freshmen, I can be instrumental in achieving an early focus on what to do over the years to be a strong applicant.

My Certificate in College Admissions Counseling is through the University of California and I visit colleges on a regular basis, creating contacts with hundreds of admissions officers and educational consultants around the country.  I work with high school students throughout the Capital District and Saratoga Region and am familiar with program offerings at most of our local high schools.  I am also an Associate Member of the IECA (Independent Educational Consultants Association), an internationally recognized professional organization that requires the highest ethical standards for its members.

I have over 23 years experience in working with teens as a National Board Certified Teacher at Niskayuna High School, and have instructed at the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Schenectady County Community College and the College of St. Rose.  I also have two children that I have successfully navigated through the college decision process.  I have presented workshops about how to improve your college process at several local school districts, Hudson Valley Community College, the Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York, the Southern Saratoga YMCA, Schenectady JCC, the Hindu Cultural Center in Colonie and at Guilderland Public Library.

In addition to my College Counseling Certificate, my education includes a BA magna cum laude from Colgate University, a teaching MA from the University at Albany and graduate work at Middlebury College and the Universidad Complutense in Madrid, Spain.
