Sci-Tech Summer Boot Camp 2023 – Minecraft: Physical to Virtual
6 Weeks | June 26th – Aug. 4th | AM Session 9AM – 12PM | PM Session 1PM – 4PM
Week 1 | June 26 – 30: Maker I – 3D Printing Prototype & Design
- Challenge: Can you design and fabricate a 3D Printed Minecraft tool?
- Projects Include: The Science + Tech of 3D Printing, Designing with Math, Design Process
- Pre-requisites: basic keyboard + mouse skills, ability to focus for extended periods of time
Week 2 | July 3 – 7: Science + Engineering I – Real vs Minecraft
- *Camp will run on July 4th*
- Challenge: What hydro-innovations can we implement from the Real World into the World of Minecraft to solve a problem or make something new?
- Projects Include: Farm Challenge, Archimedes Screw, Water Elevator Challenge, Water-Ways
- Pre-requisites: basic keyboard + mouse skills
Week 3 | July 10 – 14: Maker II – 3D Printing Prototype & Design
- Challenge: Can you design and 3D Print an articulating Minecraft Character?
- Projects Include: 3D Printing – Science + Design + Fabrication of Minecraft Characters + Stop Motion Animation
- Pre-requisites: Attendance of Summer Camp Wk. 1 -or- Previous STEAMwhiz 3D Print Course/Lab + basic keyboard & mouse skills
Week 4 | July 17 – 21: Code Hacking I – Control Minecraft with Python Coding
- Challenge: Can you modify Minecraft gameplay with Python code to produce instant and awe-inspiring results?
- Projects Include: Minecraft Modding, Minecraft Automation, Minecraft Mini-Games
- Pre-requisites: able to focus for extended periods of time, basic keyboard + mouse skills, previous coding experience is helpful but not necessary
Week 5 | July 24 – 28: Science + Engineering II – Redstone Laboratory
- Challenge: Can you apply real-world electrical engineering knowledge to design and power a Redstone contraption in gameplay?
- Projects Include: Circuits (Redstone + Physical), Scribble Bot, It’s a Trap!, Piston-Power
- Pre-requisites: basic keyboard + mouse skills
Week 6 | July 31 – Aug. 4: Code Hacking II – Physical to Virtual
- Challenge: Is it possible to bridge the real world into Minecraft?
- Projects Include: Code Hacking, Physical Technology Crafting Table, Physical to Virtual with buttons, sensors, and other electronic components
- Pre-requisites: Attendance of Summer Camp Wk. 4 + 5 -or- previous electrical components/circuits and coding experience
