Parent & Child: Keepsake Box (Morning Session)

Kids ages 8 to 11 and their grown-up helper work side by side to build a solid wood keepsake box with a custom heart cut-out on the lid or side panel. It is a great place to keep trinkets, jewelry, or treasures, and it makes a lovely gift.
What you will learn: measuring and marking, cutting mitered corners on the table saw and angle sled, safe scroll saw use for the heart detail, gluing and clamping for square joints, sanding, and applying a non-toxic finish. Instructors supervise closely throughout.
Schedule: Saturday, January 9, 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM. An afternoon session runs the same day from 1:30 to 4:00 PM.
Instructor: Karen Cavotta, Technology Education teacher at Saratoga Springs High School and Saratoga Joinery board member.
Skill level: Beginner. No woodworking experience required for kids or grown-ups.
Price: $87.50 per parent/child pair.
What to bring: A water bottle. All tools, materials, safety gear, and supplies are provided.
What to wear: Sturdy, closed-toe shoes. Avoid loose clothing, dangling hoodie strings, and jewelry, and tie back long hair. Safety glasses are required in the shop at all times and are provided, along with hearing protection.
