Evenings with the Dudley Observatory

*The event has already taken place on this date: Thu, 09/26/2019
Every Thursday, Rain or Shine join us for “Evenings at the Dudley Observatory”. There will be fun for the whole family! Educators from the Dudley Observatory at miSci will operate our 14-inch telescope inside the roll-top roof observatory, allowing visitors to see stars, planets, galaxies, and more each night! In the event of poor weather, we will have hands-on activities indoors instead.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

The observatory hours will change with the seasons, see below for current hours. miSci galleries will be open continuously from 9am until the observatory closes. Hours from now through March 7, 2019 are 6:30pm – 8:00pm. Access to the observatory or activities is free with museum admission ($12 Adult, $10 Senior, $8 Child, free for miSci members). Funding for this project made possible, in part, by a grant from the Schenectady County Legislature through its County Initiative Program.

We know it’s been cloudy most Thursday nights, so we’ve come up with some new incentives for you to come to miSci, even when it’s overcast! Each week we will have special events on Thursday nights, including lectures by our Astronomer Dr. Valerie Rapson (free) and planetarium shows ($6 extra). Full schedule below!

2/28- Live planetarium show 6:30-7pm ($6)
3/7- Talk: “Andromeda- Our Next Door Neighbor Galaxy” (Free with admission to miSci)
3/14 – Beginning March 14th our Evenings with the Dudley Observatory and observatory hours will be changing. From 6:45 pm to 7:15 pm we will have a live planetarium show following which the observatory will be opened for night sky observing from 7:30 pm to 9 pm. This will continue on Thursdays thru April 11th.  There is a $6 charge for planetarium shows.
4/18 – April 18th onward we’ll begin one hour later, planetarium show from 7:45 pm – 8:15 pm followed by night sky viewing in the observatory. Observing will continue to be free with museum admission, there is a $6 charge for planetarium shows. miSci is open regardless of weather.

We hope you can join us!
