Art Expoloration At The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico
By Meg Brunson
I've always loved art and art history - it was my favorite subject in school - and I love the art of Georgia O'Keeffe. O'Keeffe lived in Abiquiú, NM which is about an hour north of Santa Fe and you can tour her home and studio, or visit the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum just a couple blocks from the historic Santa Fe Plaza.
Upon arriving we were excited to learn that the museum offers age-appropriate work books! They had a version perfect for my younger kids, and a version for my older kids. This was one of the first stops on our full-time RV'ing adventure and since I am new to homeschooling, it was really nice to have such a handy educational resource as we took in all that the museum had to offer!
I was a little nervous about bringing the kids to an art museum like this... but the workbooks helped give them purpose and they did amazing. They loved looking at the art, and sculptures. There were a couple sections where you could view the bones that were used as inspiration for drawings/paintings and it was great to be able to see those things and talk about the process!
Things to Know Before You Go
- Parking - There is no parking onsite. You can park in metered parking throughout the city, or in a city public parking garage. We parked outside of the city since we had our RV with us, and we Ubered in!
- Lockers - The museum does not allow any large purses or backpacks, but on a first-come-first-served basis they do have free lockers you may use!
- Shopping - I love gift shops, and this one had a lot of beautiful O'Keeffe inspired items, and also a bunch of really cool art supplies. Take all my money!!
