We are super excited to celebrate our 5th Annual Pumpkin Smash on Nov 4th at Veteran's Park in Amsterdam, NY.
Last year, we diverted ~2200 lbs of pumpkins from the landfill in just 4 hours!
Pumpkins will be composted by the Compost Works Initiative @ GrowAmsterdam NY. By composting your pumpkins, you help keep organic
waste out of the landfills, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and creating compost, a natural fertilizer, for community gardens in Amsterdam, NY.
Why Keep Pumpkins Out of the Landfill?
Composting is nature’s way of recycling with many benefits:
- Avoids landfill greenhouse gas emissions from decomposing organics (currently, landfills are the 3rd largest producers of methane in the U.S.!)
- Produces a useful, nutrient-dense soil amendment
- Pumpkins are 90% water which is great for our soil, not so good in our landfills
Drop-off begins at 9 am
Smashing 10 - 1 pm
We will be selling hot cider and donuts.
