Hanford Mills Museum, listed on the National and New York State Registers of Historic Places, is open Wednesdays - Sundays, May 15 through October 15. Kids love to see the 1926 Fitz Overshot Waterwheel churn to life, and watch it power up the woodworking machines throughout the historic mill.

The historic site features Mill tours demonstrating the sawmill and other mill machines, the John Hanford Farmhouse (which recreates home life in the 1920s), and other historic buildings. Visitors can explore the nature and rail trails that wind through the Museum’s 70-acre site and are welcome to picnic beside the millpond. The Museum also features a gift shop with Mill-made crafts, traditional toys, books and local products.

The mission of Hanford Mills Museum is to inspire audiences of all ages to explore connections among energy, technology, natural resources and entrepreneurship in rural communities with a focus on sustainable choices.

Hanford Mills Museum also offers Exploration Days, workshops, field trips, in-school programs, and other events, see http://www.hanfordmills.org for details.
