Story Hour: Wangari's Trees of Peace
*The event has already taken place on this date: Tue, 11/20/2018
Come join us for the story of Wangari Maathi, a young woman from Kenya who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004 because of her contribution to world peace through the Green Belt Movement that inspired Kenyan women to reforest Kenya by planting trees.
Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.
As a young girl in Kenya, Wangari is surrounded by trees. But when she gets older, she sees the trees being cut down. Wangari is afraid that soon all the forests will be destroyed. So she decides to plant nine seedlings. And as they grow, so do her plans...
This true story of Wangari Maathai, environmentalist and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, is a shining example of how one woman's passion, vision and determination can inspire great change.
Following the story, we will be making a Thanksgiving tree craft.
