Old-Fashioned Independence Day at Clermont State Historic Site

What was life like for the people of Clermont at the dawn of the Revolutionary War? See reenactors portray the daily life of these colonists through cooking, woodworking, blacksmithing, farming and more. Be entertained by the songs and stories of Thomas Hooker Hanford. See a presentation by Heather Bruegl entitled “Freedom for Who? Indigenous Nations and America’s Independence” Hear readings of Frederick Douglass’ famous speech “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?” Enjoy refreshments from a local food truck and an ice cream from Mr. Ding-A-Ling. The day will end with a reading of the Declaration of Independence.
