Arctic Circle - Ski Lessons

Availability: Saturday or Sunday 9:30 am, 11:30 am, or 1:30 pm

Length: 1 hour 30 minutes each week for 6 weeks

Our Arctic Circle Level 1 ski program is for children ages 4-6 who have never been on skis before or have had a few hours on skis but can not stop or turn yet.

During the first two sessions, students will play games and learn basic skills to get them excited and ready to venture out on the hill on week 3. Week 1 primarily will be spent in their ski boots and on one ski. On week 2, skiers will warm up with one ski through games and quickly progress to both skis. Solid basic skills such as duck walking, getting up, stopping, and directional changes are important safety skills to know before they use our handle tow or come down the big hill!

There is an 8:2 student to instructor ratio, which is a smaller ratio to give children the extra attention they need. A 4-hour area-use-pass is included for the day of your lesson and is valid starting 30 minutes before the start time of your lesson. This allows students to warm up before their lesson time and then practice new skills after their lesson.

PSIA Junior Instructor Program - Ski

Availability: Saturday 9 am - 12 pm or Sunday 9 am to 12pm

Level 6 and 7 Only

Calling all 12, 13, and 14-year-old's who are interested in teaching skiing in the future!!

Participants must be level 6 or 7 skiers (making parallel turns). This program is through PSIA (Professional Ski Instructors of America) and earns them national recognition as a Junior Instructor. Earning this recognition develops important career skills such as public speaking, instruction, dedication, discipline, professionalism, communication, and management of group dynamics. This program also opens doors to jobs in the outdoor industry, makes them better skiers, keeps them fit all winter long, and connects your child with others who share the same passion for skiing.

Your child will train with our PSIA Certified Instructors and Trainers from 9 am - 12 pm. The junior instructor will also have to shadow 6 hours of classes taught by a Level I or higher instructor at other times during the season. These times will be emailed to the parent after December 26th, 2021. Our fee includes the $25 per participant to be paid to PSIA.

This program also comes with a full access season pass at Maple Ski Ridge (a $299 value) so that they may practice their skills or complete their shadow hours at their convenience.

There are 8 available spots on Saturday and 8 on Sunday! Come and learn to LOVE winter as much as we do!

Successful completion of this course is a guaranteed instructor position at Maple Ski Ridge the following season if they are at least 14 years of age by November 15th, 2022.

You can also review this document about this program through PSIA, where your child will earn national recognition as a Junior Instructor.
