Doane Stuart Summer Camp Theatrical Production of Footloose

A three-week, full-day summer camp 5 days a week beginning July 6th and running through July 23rd. The camp will run from 9:00am to 3:30pm and will culminate into two performance of the musical Footloose which will be performed outdoors on Friday July 23rd at 7:00pm and Saturday July 24th at 2:00pm. Auditions for roles will be held during the first day of the camp but all camp participants will be acting, singing, and dancing throughout this entire production. The camp day will be filled with theatre games, vocal work on songs for the show, the choreography of the dance numbers, staging of the scenes, memorization of lines and music, and production work for this show. The last week of the camp will involve full runs of the show in order to prepare for the performances. The camp will be held on the backfield of Doane Stuart as well as in the gym and an air-conditioned area of the building for rainy and hot weather days. Face masks will be worn at all times (including when singing and performing), social distancing will be practiced during lunchtime as well as throughout the day. Daily Health Forms and temperature checks will be required of all participants unless individuals can show proof of vaccination. The total cost of the camp is $600. Before Care and After Care, outside of the camp hours (8-9 and 3:30 – 5) will also be provided if needed for an additional $50 fee.

 

Footloose is a musical that begins when Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, he is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. But he’s not prepared for the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, who is determined to exercise control over the town’s youth. When the reverend’s rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren’s reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid. The heartfelt story that emerges pins a father longing for the son he lost against a young man aching for the father who walked out on him.
