“Exploring the Fascinating Freshwater Mussels of New York”

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

Among the most endangered groups of animals on the planet are the freshwater mussels, yet their presence in our lakes and rivers often goes unnoticed.  In this presentation, Freshwater Ecologist, Dr. Denise Mayer, will describe some of the fascinating characteristics of these mollusks that have supported their success and discuss recent Museum studies that are supporting the restoration and recovery of populations within New York State.

This program includes a 20-minute talk and Dr. Mayer will be happy to answer any questions following the presentation. Participants are welcomed to bring their lunches.
