This February, Proctors is proud to present our annual Black History Month Movie Series at the GE Theatre. From animated adventures to captivating dramas and action films that celebrate Black culture and achievements, there’s something for everyone to enjoy! The series highlights heartwarming stories of courage, resilience and triumph. Create lasting memories with your family while celebrating Black excellence on the big screen. Remember, educate, and celebrate with us.

“Summer Of Soul” (2021)

As part of our BHMS, explore rare footage from the Harlem Cultural Festival. Held over multiple weekends during the same summer as Woodstock, the festival drew more than 300,000 people to celebrate African American music, culture, pride, and unity. Despite its significance, the footage remained unseen in a basement for over 50 years until Questlove brought it to light in this powerful documentary.

“The American Society Of Magical Negroes” (2024)

In this satire of the “Magical Negro” trope, a young man joins a secret society of Black people who dedicate their lives to a cause of utmost importance: making white people’s lives easier.  Justice Smith stars. Also featuring David Alan Grier.

FREE SCREENING!

After an accident causes Joe’s (Jamie Fox), a middle-school band teacher, soul to separate from his body, he is transported to another realm where he will need to enlist the help of others in order to return to earth. This FREE screening includes pre-show trivia and raffles, and post-show refreshments! Please reserve your seats in advance to be guaranteed admittance.

From Spike Lee, comes this vibrant semi-autobiographical portrait of a school-teacher, her stubborn jazz-musician husband, and their five kids living in ’70s Brooklyn. Alfre Woodard, Delroy Lindo, and David Patrick Kelly star.

Join us at 6 pm for pre-show activities including crafts, trivia, and raffles hosted by Union College.
