The Woodsmen’s Festival celebrates the many ways people use and work with wood with exhibitors and demonstrations and forestry organizations. Throughout the day, the Museum will operating its water-powered sawmill, gristmill and woodworking shop, and visitors can see machines working just as they did a century ago.

“The first mill was built on this site in 1846,” says Museum executive director Liz Callahan. “For generations and generations, Hanford Mills supplied the community with lumber and wood products they needed for their homes, businesses, and farms. The Woodsmen’s Festival is a great time to celebrate this history, to demonstrate how we still use water power to run the Mills’ machines, and to highlight the work of today’s woodworkers, craftspeople, lumberjacks, and organizations that work to protect and enhance our forests.”  She noted that Delaware County, where the Museum is located, has a national reputation for its spectacular foliage, so fall is an ideal time to visit Hanford Mills Museum.

Festival also offers live music, hands-on activities for kids, and food trucks.
