Welcome to North Country Arts Center. We are a non-profit arts organization dedicated to emerging artists in the southeastern Adirondack region of upstate New York. While some of our members are just entering a life long adventure in the arts, others are emerging on the national arena. Our organization was begun in the early 1970s with the idea that there are talented individuals who are practicing their art behind closed doors. We hope to open those doors so that they can share their work and improve their craft with the help and encouragement of their fellow artists.

For many years we have been active in the Glens Falls area. We manage a small gallery space on the second floor of the City Hall where we sponsor two member shows a year and solo exhibits as well. September marks the 12th year for our community arts and crafts festival, Colors of Fall, and in December we sponsor the annual Juried Arts Show at the Crandall Library.

We are continually trying to find new ways to promote our members and to bring their artistic talents to the general public. In 2010, we pushed our efforts north a few miles and opened the ART in Chestertown Gallery. A number of local talented artists were encouraged to show their work, some of which had never been seen before. This endeavor was met with excitement from the artists and the community as well. Starting with just 25 artists in July, the gallery has shown over 80 artists and artisans with just three exhibits, closing for the season in January 2011.

This year promises to see additional growth in the organization. In May, we began the second year of Art in Chestertown with a student exhibition, Youth Visions, highlighting the region’s high school programs and students. We began the Saturday Scene series, showcasing original music, readings and art demonstrations at the gallery to attract more visitors, but the concept of diverse art exhibits that attracted so many last year will be maintained. In July, we introduced open still life drawing at the gallery and the first Juried Photography Show at Crandall Library sponsored by NCAC.

North Country Arts Center is a membership organization managed by artists for artists. Participation is essential for the success of our programs, exhibits and the organization itself. If you are an artist, artisan or someone who is interested in the arts, please take time to view this web site and consider becoming a member.

Thank you,
Frederick Holman, 2010-2012 President
