Chinese Cultural Gala Day in Clifton Park
The Town of Clifton Park will host the first-ever Chinese Cultural Gala Day on Sunday, July 29 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Clifton Common Stage. The free event is sponsored by the town’s Community Arts and Culture Commission in partnership with Clifton Park resident Xinhua Lee and Asian Culture Inc.
Residents of all ages will be able to participate in a hands-on Tai Chi work out as well as Chinese ribbon and fan dances. The free event also includes Chinese martial arts demonstrations, Chinese musical and dance performances and ethnic food available for purchase. A fully-costumed Chinese dance troupe will allow for excellent photography opportunities.
“The Chinese Cultural Gala Day is a wonderful opportunity for Clifton Park residents to experience first-hand the rich traditions of Chinese culture,” said Councilman James Whalen, the Town Board liaison to the Arts and Culture Commission. “My family and I are looking forward to sampling the fine Chinese art, music, dance and food that will be showcased at the gala. I encourage families to join us on the Clifton Common for this one-of-a-kind event.”
The goal of the Chinese Cultural Gala Day is to bring Clifton Park residents together to enhance the understanding and appreciation of Chinese music, dance and culture. The project promotes cultural exchange, and organizers hope to continue the event in future years. The special day is made possible through the town’s Community Arts and Culture Commission’s annual grant. The $1,000 grant is awarded annually to a Clifton Park resident or group that promotes arts and culture in Clifton Park. Asian Culture Inc. will provide $500 in supporting funding for the event.
The Clifton Common Stage is located on the Clifton Common along Vischer Ferry Road near the Shenendehowa Adult Community Center. For more information, call the town’s Office of Parks, Recreation and Community Affairs at 371-6667.
