Among the common rock-forming minerals, perhaps no major group is as interesting as the amphibole group. This is because the amphiboles have a complicated crystal structure, chemical variation, and natural occurrence. They are geologically significant in all the terrestrial systems, igneous, metamorphic, and ore deposits, and in extraterrestrial samples (meteorites) from our solar system. In our day-by-day life, the amphiboles present some environmental and health concerns. Dr. Marian Lupulescu, Curator of Geology, will give us a geological tour through the amphibole’s world.

This program includes a 20-minute talk and Dr. Lupulescu will be happy to answer any questions following the presentation. Participants are welcomed to bring their lunches.
