A new musical based on Sage Faculty Matthew McElligott’s children’s book series Backbeard and the Birthday Suit and Backbeard: Pirate for Hire. A collaboration between Matthew McElligot (book and lyrics), Michael Musial (music and lyrics)

Backbeard the Musical tells the story of Backbeard, the hairiest, toughest pirate ever. Following a particularly rowdy pirate birthday party, Backbeard admits he's a mess and that it's time for new duds. The clothing store doesn't have pirate gear, but it does have a straw boater, colorfully patterned trousers, a coat, and a pig - not the look Backbeard expected though one that brings both surprises and delights.
